Hobart Hurricanes clinched a convincing six-wicket victory over Sydney Sixers in the 7th match of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance from Hayley Silver-Holmes and a brutal batting display from Lizelle Lee.
After winning the toss at North Sydney Oval, the Hurricanes opted to bowl first – a decision that paid off brilliantly as they restricted the Sixers to 152/9 in 20 overs before chasing the target in just 16.5 overs with four wickets in hand.
Hayley Silver-Holmes delivered the standout spell of the match, finishing with 3/18 in 3 overs, dismantling the Sixers’ batting core. She struck early, removing danger batter Alyssa Healy with a sharp delivery, before dismissing captain Ashleigh Gardner (9) and all-rounder Amelia Kerr (0) in quick succession.
Her disciplined bowling triggered a collapse that kept the Sixers from capitalizing on their starts, despite Healy’s fluent knock and a late surge from Maitlan Brown, who contributed 29 off 21 balls.
Support came from Linsey Smith (2/15) and Lauren Smith (1/14), as the Hurricanes maintained tight control throughout the innings.
The Sixers were inconsistent with bat in hand, losing wickets at crucial intervals despite several promising partnerships. Healy’s aggressive 37, Perry’s well-crafted 33, and Brown’s late hitting pushed the score past 150, but the Hurricanes’ varied attack ensured no batter could convert their start into a match-winning knock.
The Sixers finished on 152/9, a total that proved insufficient on a batting-friendly pitch.
In reply, the Hurricanes produced a clinical batting performance. Lizelle Lee was the star, smashing a scintillating 55 off just 33 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes, setting the tone for a successful run chase.
Her opening stand with Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, who hammered 45 off 26, powered the Hurricanes to 95/1 inside 9.2 overs, effectively taking the game away from the Sixers.
Later contributions from Nicola Carey (26 nott out off 18) and captain Elyse Villani (3 not out off 5) ensured Hobart crossed the target comfortably at 154/4.

The Sixers struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ aggressive batting. Lauren Cheatle (1/27) and Ashleigh Gardner (1/40) managed breakthroughs, while young spinner Caoimhe Bray (2/17) impressed with timely wickets of Nat Sciver-Brunt (21 off 16) and Heather Graham (0 off 3).
However, the bowlers lacked consistency as Lee and Wyatt-Hodge dominated the early overs, leaving little room for Sixers’ comeback.
