'I want to play the World Cup' - Rohit Sharma is not giving up just yet

Star Indian batter Rohit Sharma has finally addressed the question fans have been asking for months, whether he will play the 2027 ODI World Cup. In a recent interaction with a Make-A-Wish child, Rohit confirmed his willingness to play in the next 50-over World Cup.
After retiring from T20Is following India’s 2024 World Cup triumph and stepping away from Test cricket in May this year, Rohit’s future in ODIs had become a major topic of discussion. The 38-year-old stated that he has unfinished business in the format.

The Nagpur-born came close to lifting the ODI World Cup in 2023, when India fell short in the final against Australia despite his exceptional leadership and attacking batting at the top. Meanwhile, the ODI captaincy has now passed to Shubman Gill. Yet, both Rohit and Virat Kohli have been retained for the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
The upcoming three-match ODI series, beginning October 19 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, making Rohit’s return to international cricket after India’s Champions Trophy win earlier this year. Notably, his preparation has grabbed headlines, with reports suggesting he has shed nearly 10 kilograms during a rigorous training regimen with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
Meanwhile, Rohit was among the first to hit the nets upon India’s arrival in Perth. Despite landing after multiple flight delays, he and Kohli attended the optional session on Day 1, batting for extended periods. On Day 2, Rohit worked on his timing and even engaged in fielding drills. He was also seen in detailed discussions with head coach Gambhir and captain Gill.
