Amid the T20 cricket leagues entertaining the fans, there is also some international cricket gaining steam gradually. 21st May will mark the beginning of the ODI series between the hosts, Ireland (IRE) and the West Indies (WI), with the first game to be played at Castle Avenue in Dublin.
The Ireland team had a disappointing series against Zimbabwe, where despite starting with a win in the one-off Test, they failed to capitalise in the T20Is and ODI matches. The Paul Stirling-led side will want to prove themselves in this series and get the better of the Caribbean giants, starting with the upcoming fixture.
Speaking of the West Indies, they had a great ODI series against Bangladesh, winning all three of their games. The team will once again feature some exciting players under the leadership of star top-order batter Shai Hope. The two-time world champions will want to continue their strong performances in the 50-over format.
Castle Avenue in Dublin has been one of the most unpredictable venues so far. There have been occasions where the pitch has been great for batting, and other instances where the bowlers have received plenty of assistance as well. Though the average score on this wicket is not particularly high, the last few games have witnessed several big totals.
Paul Stirling (c), Cade Carmichael, Andy Balbirnie, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Andy McBrine, George Dockrell, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little, Matthew Humphreys, Liam McCarthy.
Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (c), Keacy Carter, Brandon King, Amir Jangoo (wk), Justin Greaves, Roston Chase, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jaydon Seales.
Shai Hope has been one of the emerging batters for the West Indies and has proved himself as a leader in the last series. All eyes will be on the West Indies skipper, as the conditions in Dublin are likely to suit his elegant stroke play and shot-making ability.
The surface in Dublin has been known to offer plenty of seam and bounce in previous games. Alzarri Joseph is expected to exploit the conditions in his favour from this wicket with his skiddy pace. Joseph has been one of the most trusted bowlers for the West Indies, and there will be high expectations of him in this series.
