A nail-biting finish unfolded in the 17th match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 as MI New York (MINY) edged past the Seattle Orcas (SO) by five runs at the Knight Riders Cricket Field in Pomona. After being asked to bat first, MINY posted 132/8 in their 20 overs before producing a disciplined bowling performance to restrict the Orcas to 127/9, securing a crucial victory.
While the contest went right down to the wire, MI New York seized the early momentum courtesy of veteran left-arm pacer Trent Boult, who produced a trademark wicket to send Seattle opener Shayan Jahangir back to the pavilion.
Boult struck in the third over of the chase with a delivery that showcased his exceptional skill with the new ball. Facing the experienced New Zealand pacer, Jahangir attempted to create room and muscle the ball across the leg side on a sluggish surface.
However, Boult was simply too good. The left-armer beat the batter completely as the ball crashed into the leg stump, sending it cartwheeling. Jahangir’s entertaining stay came to an end for 8 off 12 deliveries, giving MI New York the breakthrough they desperately wanted. The stunning dismissal immediately caught the attention of fans, with Boult once again proving why he remains one of the most dangerous new-ball bowlers in franchise cricket.

Earlier in the evening, Quinton de Kock anchored MI New York’s innings with a composed 61 off 46 balls. Tajinder Dhillon chipped in with 23 from 20 deliveries, while Nicholas Pooran added 19 to help MINY reach 132/8. Seattle Orcas fought back brilliantly with the ball through Marcus Stoinis, who claimed three wickets, while Jasdeep Singh and Ottneil Baartman picked up two wickets each.
The chase, however, never truly gathered momentum after Boult’s early strike. Romario Shepherd starred with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets. Despite regular setbacks, Stoinis kept the Orcas alive with a fighting 36 off 31 balls. Jasdeep Singh then injected fresh hope with a blistering cameo of 16 from just eight deliveries, bringing the equation within reach heading into the final over.
With Seattle needing a late flourish, MI New York skipper Kieron Pollard delivered the decisive moment of the contest. Pollard dismissed the well-set Stoinis, effectively ending the Orcas’ hopes of pulling off a dramatic heist. Seattle eventually finished on 127/9 in their 20 overs, falling five runs short as MI New York walked away with a hard-fought victory in one of the closest finishes of the MLC 2026 season.
