The T20 Mumbai League is set for another expansion, with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) inviting bids for the right to operate a new franchise representing Navi Mumbai. The move will take the men’s competition to nine teams and further broaden the league’s footprint across Mumbai and its surrounding regions.

The development comes shortly after the conclusion of the fourth edition in June, which the MCA described as a successful season that generated strong interest among fans while delivering competitive domestic cricket.

The addition of a Navi Mumbai-based franchise is expected to give the league a wider geographical presence. It could also create another avenue for talented cricketers from Navi Mumbai and neighbouring areas to showcase their skills on a prominent domestic platform. The T20 Mumbai League has been designed to provide opportunities to players within the Mumbai cricket ecosystem, with several young and emerging cricketers using the competition as a stepping stone in their careers.

With the ninth franchise, the MCA appears keen to build on that model while making the tournament more representative of the wider cricketing community in the Mumbai region. The association said the fourth season attracted considerable attention from supporters and featured closely contested cricket throughout the competition.

The MCA has now formally opened the process for prospective franchise owners interested in acquiring the right to operate the new team. According to the association, interested parties can collect the bid documents from the MCA office at the Cricket Centre inside Wankhede Stadium in Churchgate, Mumbai. The documents will be available from August 10 to August 25, 2026, with interested bidders able to obtain them between 11 am and 6 pm during the specified period.

The bidding process marks the first major step towards introducing the ninth team into the competition. Further details regarding the franchise and its ownership are expected to emerge once the process progresses.

The expansion comes at an important stage for the T20 Mumbai League, which is attempting to strengthen its position in India’s crowded domestic franchise cricket landscape. The MCA highlighted the strong fan response and quality of cricket during the fourth edition, suggesting that the league has built a solid base to support further growth.

“The season saw strong fan interest and competitive cricket, further strengthening the league’s position as one of India’s leading franchise-based domestic T20 tournaments,” the MCA said in a statement.

The inclusion of Navi Mumbai could add a fresh dimension to the competition while increasing opportunities for local players. For the MCA, the expansion also represents a chance to take the league to a broader audience and develop a deeper talent pool. With bidding now underway, attention will turn to the parties seeking ownership of the new franchise and how the ninth team will shape the next chapter of the T20 Mumbai League.
