Netherlands recall Tim Pringle and Saqib Zulfiqar for ODI series
The Netherlands cricket team has recalled Tim Pringle and Saqib Zulfiqar for their upcoming ODI series against Nepal and Namibia. The four matches will be held at Kampong in Utrecht as part of the World Cup League 2 competition. These fixtures are crucial for the Netherlands' campaign in the league, where they currently sit third on the points table behind USA and Scotland.
Saqib Zulfiqar, aged 29, bats in the lower middle order and bowls legspin. His last ODI appearance came at the 2023 World Cup, with 15 ODI caps to his name. Tim Pringle, a lower-order batter and left-arm fingerspinner, last played an ODI in 2022 against Pakistan in Rotterdam. Both players bring valuable experience to a squad that combines established performers with emerging talent and players returning from injury.
Scott Edwards will captain the 15-member Netherlands squad. The team includes Max O'Dowd, Cedric de Lange, Vikramjit Singh, Bas de Leede, Noah Croes, Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe, Kyle Klein, Ryan Klein, Aryan Dutt, Alex Roy and Zach Lion-Cachet. Acting coach Heino Kuhn expressed confidence in the squad composition, stating that the team features a well-balanced mix of experience, players in excellent form and emerging cricketers.
Kuhn highlighted the squad's depth and quality across all departments. He noted that some players are returning from injury and have worked hard to perform well again. The coach expressed confidence that whichever XI takes the field will be a strong one. He acknowledged that the upcoming opponents are quality sides that have been playing very good cricket over the past 12 months and will not be taken lightly.
The Netherlands will aim to play their brand of cricket across all four matches and put in strong performances. Kuhn stated that the team's focus is on executing their style of play consistently throughout the series. The upcoming fixtures against Nepal and Namibia will provide important opportunities to build momentum in the World Cup League 2 competition.
The top four teams from World Cup League 2 will advance to the qualifying tournament for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Netherlands' current third-place position means these matches are vital for securing a spot in the qualifying tournament. The team will look to consolidate their standing and improve their chances of qualification.
