Shardul Thakur fined for abusing the umpire during T20 Mumbai League 2026 clash

Shardul Thakur got into a heated altercation with one of the on-field umpires during the T20 Mumbai League 2026 clash between Eagle Thane Strikers and Aakash Tigers MWS at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, June 3.

The experienced all-rounder lost his cool during an intense encounter between two talented teams in the high-voltage tournament. According to the Times of India, the Eagle Thane Strikers' captain has been fined Rs 20,000 and has received 3 demerit points for a Level 2 offence.

In the fascinating fixture, Aakash Tigers emerged victorious by one run. Thane required seven runs to win the match in the last over with one wicket remaining. Amartya Raje was run out by leg-spinner Naman Pushpak on the penultimate delivery of the over, sending the Tigers' players into a state of delirium.

Thakur took the new ball in the first innings and bowled just two overs, giving away 11 runs without picking up a wicket. Joy Gokul Bista top-scored for the Tigers with a 40-ball 56 at the top of the order. Shams Mulani's men finished on 172/9 in 20 overs, which seemed a below-par score at the halfway stage of the match.

However, the Strikers lost wickets at regular intervals after the midway point of their innings, bringing the Tigers back into the contest. Thakur batted at No. 8 and gave hopes to the Strikers during his 25-run knock off 15 balls, hitting one four and two sixes. However, he was dismissed in the 18th over by Jamshed Alam, and this turned out to be a significant moment in the game. Sairaj Patel (39) and Siddhant Singh (37) made handy contributions, but it wasn't enough to take the Tigers over the line.

It has been a tough few weeks for Thakur of late. During the recently-concluded IPL, the all-rounder played for the Mumbai Indians but failed to make much of an impact. He got limited opportunities with the bat, and with the ball, he took 12 wickets in nine games at an economy rate of 12.27.
