Shaun Tait steps down as Bangladesh fast-bowling coach
Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait has resigned from his position as Bangladesh’s fast-bowling coach with immediate effect, bringing an end to his one-year association with the national team. The decision comes despite Tait having a contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) until November 2027, as he has chosen to spend more time with his young family.
Tait, who joined the Bangladesh setup in May 2025, confirmed his departure on Thursday, June 4, and reflected positively on his time with the team.
“My 12 months with the BCB and the Bangladesh national team was fulfilling. I want to thank the BCB. I really enjoyed working with the players. I have a great relationship with the fast bowling group. They were good to work with, and I created some really good relationships in Bangladesh, around the cricketing community in general,” Tait told ESPNcricinfo.
The former Australia speedster revealed that family considerations played a major role in his decision to step away from the full-time coaching assignment. However, he indicated that his association with Bangladesh cricket may not be completely over.
“I don’t think that’ll be the closed door on my time in the country. There’s obviously BPL and what not. You never know what the future holds. But for the time being, my young family need a bit more of my time. So, the full-time role of year-round red and white-ball cricket, my 12 months was enough and it’s time to just step back and give my family a little bit more time,” he added.
During his tenure, Tait played an important role in the growth of Bangladesh’s fast-bowling department. The pace attack emerged as one of the side’s strongest assets under his guidance, with the seamers producing several notable performances across formats.
One of the highlights of his stint came during Bangladesh’s historic 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan, where the fast bowlers played a crucial role in the team’s success. Tait had repeatedly backed the country’s pace resources and urged Bangladesh to view fast bowling as a major strength going forward.
The 43-year-old also brought extensive coaching experience to the role, having previously worked with Pakistan and Afghanistan as a bowling coach. In franchise cricket, he has been associated with the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the BCB is considering former Bangladesh fast bowler Talha Jubair as an interim replacement for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. Bangladesh are scheduled to host Australia in a three-match ODI series beginning on June 9 in Dhaka.
