Cricket and music are quite similar. Often cricketers are seen listening to some good music to divert their mind from the sport, while musicians use the sport as a recreational activity to move away from the cage of creativity. A magical bond between music and cricket surfaced in 2006 when Australian tearaway pacer Brett Lee collaborated with legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle for a music video.
Now that Bhosle is no more, having breathed her last on Sunday, April 12, in Mumbai, Lee was left emotional at the passing of the veteran musician. The former cricketer has reminisced on what it was like to share the floor with Asha Bhosle for a melodious composition, the lyrics for which they wrote in under thirty minutes during one of the practice sessions of the Champions Trophy in 2006.
"I had the pleasure of writing and recording You’re the One for Me with Asha Bhosle back in 2006. It’s something I’ll always be incredibly grateful for," Lee captioned a special post on his official Instagram handle for Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92.
"What stayed with me most wasn’t just her extraordinary talent but how kind and humble she was. For someone who had achieved so much in her life, she carried herself with such warmth and generosity," Lee wrote further.
"My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. I feel very fortunate to have shared even a small moment with someone so special. There’s no doubt her legacy will live on for generations to come," he expressed his heartfelt condolences.
Notably, the song that Lee and Bhosle featured together in was "You're The One For Me" and was released in year 2006. Almost a couple of decades later, the song is still fresh in the memories of both music and cricket connoisseurs. The musical video of the song features both the legendary icons of their respective fields, where Bhosle acts as a mediator for Lee, who is trying to express his love to an Indian lady in Hindi.
