Shubman Gill surprised by fan chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in Adelaide

Indian captain Shubman Gill is in Adelaide, set to lead India in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Australia on Thursday, October 23. Ahead of the crucial match at Adelaide Oval, Gill was seen taking a stroll through the streets of Adelaide alongside Harshit Rana when he met a fan who, after shaking hands with him, unexpectedly chanted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.
Gill appeared surprised by the fan’s reaction, and a clip of the incident has now gone viral on social media. What adds fuel to the fire is the two nations have been sharing very sensitive relations of late, especially after the Pahalgam terror attacks earlier this year in May.
In those three matches, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 14, 21, and 28, Gill scored 10, 47, and 12 runs respectively. Despite failing to cross the 50-run mark in any of the games, India defeated Pakistan in all three encounters. Gill had served as vice-captain in the continental tournament.
The second ODI of the India-Australia series is a must-win for the visitors after they suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the series opener at Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 19. In that match, Gill could manage only 10 runs from 18 balls, and in Adelaide, he again struggled, scoring nine runs before being dismissed by Xavier Bartlett.
Veteran Virat Kohli, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back ducks in the first two ODIs, while Rohit Sharma scored a fluent 73 from 97 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, marking his 59th ODI half-century. Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also contributed significantly, scoring his 23rd ODI half-century and acknowledging the enthusiastic crowds at Adelaide.
