Australia's Alex Carey has etched his name into the record books by becoming just the fourth wicketkeeper-batter to attain two 50-plus scores in both innings of an Ashes Test. Australia possess a hefty 356-run lead at the end of Day 3 of the third Test of the ongoing Ashes 2025-26, with Carey and Travis Head unbeaten at the Adelaide Oval.
There are two other Australians on the list. The last time a wicketkeeper had achieved the feat was way back in 2013, when Brad Haddin had registered 94 and 53 in Australia's first and second innings, respectively, in a contest which the Aussies eventually ended up winning by a colossal 381 runs at the Gabba, Brisbane.
Earlier in the match, Carey top-scored for Australia in their first innings after the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. His 143-ball 106-run knock comprised eight fours and a six. The ton was Carey's third in Test cricket and second one in 2025.
While keeping the wickets on the second day, the 34-year-old contributed with the gloves by snapping up five catches. The Three Lions ended up conceding the first innings lead after getting bowled out for 286 with skipper Ben Stokes top-scoring with 83.

The first two matches were comprehensively won by Australia by eight wickets in Perth and Brisbane. With the way the ongoing match is panning out, it seems increasingly likely that Australia will secure the series, essentially making the fourth and fifth Tests dead rubbers.
Travis Head, who had got dismissed for only 10 in the first innings, racked up a solid ton in Australia's second. He will be keen on capitalizing on the momentum generated and get past his Test highest score as 175.
