Subhadeep Ghosh appointed as India's new fielding coach ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of the Indian men's cricket team. The experienced coach replaces T Dilip, whose tenure ended after India's recently concluded tour of Zimbabwe, as his contract was not renewed.

Ghosh is set to begin his stint with the senior national side during India's upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka later this month.

A former first-class cricketer, the 57-year-old represented Assam and Railways in domestic cricket, featuring in 17 first-class matches between 1994 and 2004. After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into coaching and has steadily built an impressive résumé across multiple levels of Indian cricket.

Apart from serving as the head coach of the Assam senior men's team, Ghosh has also worked at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), coached India A and the Indian women's team, and gained valuable experience in the Indian Premier League with Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

His appointment further strengthens head coach Gautam Gambhir's support staff following the exits of T Dilip and Ryan ten Doeschate. The current coaching group also includes batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and bowling coach Morne Morkel.

Meanwhile, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) congratulated Ghosh on his appointment, describing it as a proud moment for the state's cricketing fraternity.

India will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series beginning on August 15 in Galle, with the second and final Test scheduled to be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23. The series is also a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
