Usman Tariq creates history in CPL, breaks all-time wickets record

Pakistani mystery spinner Usman Tariq has created history in the Caribbean Premier League by taking at least one wicket in each of 16 consecutive innings, breaking the all-time CPL record for the feat. The milestone places Tariq above all previous holders of the record in the tournament's history.

The previous mark of 15 consecutive innings with a wicket was held jointly by West Indian pace bowlers Jerome Taylor, who set it across the 2015-2017 period, and Dwayne Bravo, who matched it across 2016-2017. Tariq has now gone one further, standing alone at the top of this particular CPL record.

Tariq is representing Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2026, the same franchise for whom he was the leading wicket-taker in CPL 2025, claiming 20 wickets in 10 matches as TKR went on to win the title that season.

Usman Tariq is a Pakistani off-spinner who made his T20 International debut in November 2025 against South Africa. The record Tariq has broken was previously shared by two of the CPL's most decorated performers. Jerome Taylor, the Jamaican fast bowler, held the mark after a sustained run of wicket-taking form between 2015 and 2017. Dwayne Bravo, the Trinidad and Tobago all-rounder, matched that tally across the 2016-2017 period.

Both Taylor and Bravo were experienced international cricketers at the time they set their respective streaks, which made the record a significant one within CPL history. Tariq, still early in his international career, having debuted only in November 2025, has now surpassed both of them with his run of 16 consecutive wicket-taking innings for Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2026.

The achievement underlines just how quickly the off-spinner has established himself as one of the most reliable wicket-takers in franchise T20 cricket globally.
