The Guyana Amazon Warriors marched into the final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 after a spirited 14-run win over the Saint Lucia Kings in Qualifier 1 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The match will be remembered for a magical spell from Gudakesh Motie, whose back-to-back dismissals of Roston Chase and Tim David turned the tide in the Warriors’ favour.
Opting to bat first on a surface known for assisting spinners, the Warriors posted 157 before being bowled out in the final over. Australian batter Ben McDermott anchored the innings with a crucial 34 off 27 balls, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking despite regular breakthroughs from the Kings.
Left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for Saint Lucia Kings, finishing with 3 for 33. His variations made scoring difficult in the middle overs, while seamers chipped in to keep the Warriors from pushing past the 170-mark. Still, the total proved to be competitive given the nature of the Providence pitch.
The Kings’ reply got off to a shaky start and it was Motie who delivered the killer blows in the seventh over. On the fourth ball of his over, Chase, known for his calmness against spin, attempted an ambitious swipe to a quicker delivery. The ball skidded through, beat the bat, and crashed into the leg stump. Just one ball later, David fell victim to Motie’s clever drift and accuracy. Shaping for a drive, the powerful hitter was completely undone as the ball straightened and clattered into his off stump.
The Providence crowd erupted, sensing a momentum shift. Motie’s figures of 4 for 30 not only derailed Saint Lucia’s chase but also earned him the Player of the Match award.

CPL 2025: Gudakesh Motie’s four-wicket haul fires Guyana Amazon Warriors into the final
Despite being in early trouble, Saint Lucia Kings found hope through Khary Pierre, who played a breathtaking knock of 50 off just 29 balls. His fearless hitting kept the Kings alive in the contest and gave them a chance to chase down the target.
However, the lack of support from the middle and lower order meant his efforts went in vain. The Kings eventually folded for 143 in 19.1 overs, falling 14 runs short of the target.
