Following a landmark takeover in English cricket’s premier short-format tournament, Sunrisers Leeds owner Kavya Maran stepped into the broadcast booth for her commentary debut on Sky Sports. Speaking candidly about the group’s ambitious trajectory, Maran reflected on acquiring full control of the Leeds-based franchise and outlined her vision for expanding the iconic orange brand across global domestic leagues.

During her broadcast appearance, Maran detailed the strategic decision behind securing a 100% stake in the Northern Superchargers, now rebranded under the Sunrisers banner. Unlike other private entities in The Hundred that opted for partial 49% or 51% equity stakes, the Sun Group became the sole investor to assume complete ownership of a franchise in partnership with Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Maran praised the collaborative synergy with the White Rose county, emphasizing that full operational ownership works best through strong local alignment.

“Very much so. I think that was something that we were clear even with the ECB from the start, and we have a very good relationship with the Yorkshire county. So, I think even though we have 100 per cent, we have been working together with them and they have been a great partner to have on board,” Maran shared during her Sky Sports debut.

The rebrand from the team’s original purple-and-black aesthetic to the signature Sunrisers orange was met with overwhelming enthusiasm by the Headingley crowd. Encouraged by the local reception, Maran expressed boundless optimism for the franchise’s future reach.

“I don’t think anything can stop us now. It is a good beginning. I see a lot of orange and I think that is a great start for us. Obviously, this is a new brand for them. They used to be in a different colour. The great news is they seem to love the orange and that’s exciting. I think that we just grow from here,” she added.

“We’ll only grow from here.” 🙌
