England are set to play two out of their three Super 8 matches at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The other one will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
In the group stage, the Three Lions played two games at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and two at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. They will start their campaign in the Super 8 on Sunday, February 22, when they take on Sri Lanka in Kandy.
The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for England. They have played six T20Is, winning four games and losing just two. Just before the T20 World Cup 2026, England toured Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and as many T20Is. The entire T20I series was played at the aforementioned venue, and England managed to whitewash the hosts 3-0.
England's first T20I appearance in Kandy came during the 2012 T20 World Cup. They faced the West Indies in that edition in Kandy on September 27. On the back of Johnson Charles' 56-ball 84, the Windies posted 179/5. Chris Gayle also scored 58 off 35 deliveries. In reply, Alex Hales scored a sedate half-century on a tricky surface. However, two out of the top three batters were dismissed for ducks. Jonny Bairstow played a peculiar 18-run knock off 29 balls, and Eoin Morgan's enterprising half-century went in vain. The European giants finished on 164/4, losing by 15 runs.
Meanwhile, in the last T20I played by England at the venue, they scored just 128/9 in the first innings, with Sam Curran top-scoring with a 48-ball 58. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 116 as Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks spun a web around the opposition batters in favourable conditions.
Jacob Bethell is the leading run-getter in the T20 World Cup for England. In four matches, he has scored 143 runs at an average of 35.75 and a strike rate of 134.90. Meanwhile, four England bowlers have picked up four wickets each so far and they are Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, and Jofra Archer.
