Zaheer Abbas explains why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should play ODI World Cup 2027 for Team India

As anticipation builds for the global showpiece, former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has weighed in on the debate, insisting that both Indian stalwarts deserve to feature in the tournament if they remain fit and continue performing.

The prospect of seeing Kohli and Rohit in another ODI World Cup continues to excite cricket fans across the globe. With both veterans having stepped away from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, One-Day Internationals remain the only format they actively play at the international level. Many fans and former cricketers believe the 2027 ODI World Cup could serve as the perfect farewell for the iconic duo. Adding his voice to the discussion, legendary Pakistan batter Zaheer strongly supported the inclusion of both Kohli and Rohit in India’s World Cup plans. According to him, their vast experience and exceptional skill set make them automatic contenders as long as they remain physically fit and continue delivering with the bat.

“Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don’t see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The former Pakistan captain also singled out Kohli’s fitness standards while offering a gentle suggestion to Rohit regarding his physical conditioning. At the same time, he praised the Indian captain’s effortless batting, recalling his recent century against England.

“Kohli is still supremely fit, while Rohit just needs to pay a little more attention to his fitness. I watched Rohit score a hundred against England, and it is still a pleasure to watch him bat. He plays so effortlessly and with such sweet timing,” Zaheer added.
